¡¡Key Function
Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People¡¯s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with delegates of the first plenary session of the Third CESC Congress. He emphasized:
The CESC shall tap its unique advantages and play an active role in promoting the economic and social development as well as expanding non-governmental channels for exchanges with foreign countries.
¡¡Elections
The first session of the Third CESC Congress was convened on April 3, 2009, in Beijing.
Wang Gang, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and ViceChairman of the CPPCC National Committee, was elected the CESC chairman at themeeting; 12 vice-chairpersons, 78 directors and 99 members were also elected.

We, the representatives of member organizations of the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (AICESIS). IV. The f if th meeting of the China-EU Round Table was co-chaired by Mr Wang Gang,Chairman of the CESC, and Mr Mario Sepi, President of the EESC.
V. During the meeting, delegates from both sides held extensive discussions on the themes ¡°Recycling Industries¡± and "Economic and Social Rights in China and the EU". They exchanged views in an atmosphere of equality, frankness and friendship.
VI. The Round Table expressed grave concerns over the current f inancial crisis and its negative impact on the people in the EU and in China. A tripar tite workshop on combating the financial crisis will be held in Tianjin, with the par ticipation of members from the CESC delegation, EESC delegation and the Tianjin Economic and Social Council. The organisation of this workshop demonstrates the need to involve civil society in the reflection on the current crisis and in the definition and implementation of the measures to be taken.
